ABOUT

Suzanne Houghton walks around with a head full of ideas and a sketchbook full of characters. She loves nothing more than to splash colour on a page and according to her children, spends most of her time ‘colouring in’.

In 2015 Suzanne was recognised for her talent winning the Five Mile Press National Illustration Award, leading to her first picture book Starring Walter Pigeon. She has been busy sharpening pencils ever since.

In 2020 Suzanne was awarded the Speech Pathology Australia book of the year for Goat on a Boat written by Nick Dent, and was again shortlisted in 2023 for Wonderful Wasps written by Katrina Germein.

She is constantly working on new and exciting projects, both fiction and non fiction and now includes writing her own stories as one of her talents.

When it comes to her books, there is one thing Suzanne wants more than anything. To bring joy. Whether through humorous characters, or her colourful artistic style, if a child doesn’t find joy in her books, then she isn’t doing her job properly.

Suzanne will talk about picture books to anyone that will listen and especially loves visiting schools and libraries. She hopes that through her workshops and presentations she can inspire kids to be as creative as possible for as long as possible.
